italian Geneology help.... Ida Gobbi and Eugene Ceppetelli?
This is all the information I have about them:
Ida Gobbi

Died: Worcester, Mass
Eugene Ceppetelli
14 Jun 1892-Oct 1964
Born: Italy
Died: Mass.
I dont know when they were married, and as far as i know they lived in Webster, Mass when they came to America from Italy. I'm having a VERY difficult time finding thier parents, and ive also been told that Italy didnt star keeping official records until 1866. Please help.
I have an ancestry.com membership....but all the records are in italian and hard to understand.
**Ceppetelli isnt' always spelled like that, is sometimes like Cappitelli or something like that.
Eguene had a brother, Charles. I dont know about Ida. Ive also been told that they came through Ellis Island, but not together. Thank You.
As the other person answering already mentioned, Eugene came from Fano, in the Marche region of Italy. Using the World Names Profiler search engine, I found that Gobbi is a surname that's found at its highest levels in Italy in the Marche region too. The city in Marche with the highest level of the Gobbi surname is Ancona.
So Ida probably came from Ancona or nearby and may have known Eugene before both immigrated. Or they met in the U.S. Many times Italian immigrants from the same town or area settled in the same city in the U.S. My paternal grandparents came from the same small town in Sicily and came over as teenagers in 1890 and 1895. They both lived in NYC and married in 1904. They may or may have not known each other back in Sicily.
You need to search ancestry.com to see if you can find Ida on a ship list. If you find her, you may find the name of her father or mother listed as her closest relative back in Italy. If you can't find her on a ship list, go to the FamilySearch website and find the nearest Family History Center. There you can order microfilmed records from Ancona and research the birth records for 1895 to see if you can find Ida's birth record, which will list her parents' names. The records are in Italian, but there are genealogy books which will help you read the essential information you want from various Italian records.
