Gordon Brown says he will make sure housing becomes affordable to more people?
He says he will ensure new build schemes to help first time buyers and key workers buy affordable houses.
That's all well and good, they have been building these schemes for years now . . . is the next step to make them actually affordable?
(As a key worker, I was offered a tiny 1 bed flat to buy, would have cost me ihn part buy/ part rent about £900 per month and an extra £12k for a parking space when I am required to drive for work - AFFORDABLE????)
how do I tell the government this???? I am very angry about it!!!
Gordon Brown wont deliver on this one. The government has based its theory on basic economic grounds which says if you saturate the market with more houses then the price will go down as supply exceeds demand.
However, it has placed the controls of the housng market in the hands of landowners and builders who are colluding to keep prices high by not building on aquired land. Furthermore, housing that is built is being bought by millionaires as investments which they then rent out at sky high rates.
The truth is the ordinary punter is being squeezed out by Capitalists and aided by intellectually bankrupt government policy.
Brown thinks he can make Labour's stranglehold on government unbreakable by disowning responsibility for what would normally be key govt responsibilities. We seen this when he gave The Bank of England responsibility for setting interest rates. He is trying to do the same with other commercial aspects of government such as housing.
He was visited by Margaret Thatcher recently who told him he was doing a good job. England has a viper in its midst. Boot him out at the earliest opportunity and dont wait until you are all living in cardboard boxes.
