Is it legal to advertise my business on street lampposts?
Hi, I run a small business repairing and upgrading computers. I also do basic training for some of my customers at a small cost. When advertising i have always printed my own flyers that are of a professional standard and posted them through peoples doors.
The lamp posts are classed as street furniture and as such are owned by the local council. So the answer there would be no - plus it would not do your emerging company any good if you were prosecuted. Local paper publicity etc. Far better to use the local paper for other means, such as giving your business publicity for all the right reasons.

It is meant for marketing web sites, but would work equally well for a land based business. Basically, you need to promote your business constantly to everyone you meet. It is really quite easy to do. I have tried it and it worked for me.
Another thought. As you are involved in computers, have you considered of setting up a web site? This seems logical to me. Also, on a web-site you could offer a simple help service, i.e., people not knowing some really basic cures on simple problems on Word programmes etc. If you do this, you will gain customers and this basic knowledge you offer will not cost you anything. You will virtually gain captive customers who will trust you.
Also, try publicising your company at any computer courses held by the local authority. If you could gain the friendship/co-operation of any of the tutors this would be an advantage.
