How much does it cost to make a go-kart frame?
My friends and I are going to build a go kart this summer and I am preparing a preliminary cost estimate. How much does it cost to build (i.e. cutting and welding) a frame together, and what would be a good material to build it out of (steel or chrome-moly)? There are some pre-built chassis around the internet, but they cost anywhere from $200 to $700. I am planning to use at least a 5hp engine and maybe a torque converter, so strength must be taken into account.
First off check the salvage yards, scrap yards. Is better to recycle a frame than expend the resources to make a new one.

They sell a ready built for $399.00..so $700 seems a bit out of whack.
