North Channel Sea Kayaking vs. Lake Canoeing - which should I choose?
I'm trying to decide between two orientation tours wilderness my offer for college freshmen the summer before classes start. The first boat lake is Lake Provincial Park Algonquin in Canada, and includes "difficult portages, and hot water for bathing and fishing. "The second is a" paddle self-supported sea kayak through the historic Canal du Nord where we live our kayaks for a week. Does anyone know what sea kayaking is like and how this experience could be different from canoeing in the lakes? Or do you know what the North Channel is like? I do not really know which to choose. Any help, such as knowledge of sea kayaking, or the North Channel, or Algonquin Park would be really appreciated. Trips are for all ranges of experience and competence, I do 'm not worried about it. They give a lot of education to everyone.
It is certainly a question of your own taste, but personally I prefer kayaking. I did a lot of time canoeing trip and I found kayaking, hiking more enjoyable than sitting or kneeling in a canoe for hours. I like the way a kayak is handy and the speed you can make your own paddle. I recognize the packaging gear is easier in a canoe, but portaging between lakes is a chore that I do not. You will also encounter more mosquitoes on circuit lakes. North of Lake Huron and the Channel is an amazing place (I lived in Michigan for 8 years and kayaking). However, if you like the idea of swimming all day, you can choose the trip lake - Algonquin is a lovely park. You can swim in Lake Huron, but it is terribly cold. Regarding adventure continues, I think the kayak tour would be more exciting, but the canoe trip could be more relaxing (except for the port.) On the other hand, you're likely to see more animals Wild on the canoe trip so that may be a consideration for you. What amounts to saying that one would be great, but we must weigh that experiences appeal to you more.
