What areas are considered Ghetto in Myrtle Beach?
My family is considering moving to Myrtle Beach. Where would be a safe place to buy a house? Is Windmill Way considered safe?
There's not a lot that can be considered "ghetto" over in Carolina Forest (where Windmill Way is) simply because that's all fairly recently developed real estate. It wasn't all that long ago that the whole area out there was a forest. A lot of that area is still a forest.
There's another "safe" issue over there though. 1) that area used the be the bombing range of MB Air Force Base - people have found old bombs over there. 2) it's a black bear habitat - there are bears roaming around although they don't usually bother people. 3) there was a really bad (truly bad - huge - devastating - national news) forest fire over there last year and burned forest that isn't cleared properly burns really well and stinks when wet - it's charcoal. Ask your real estate agent about these things as they relate to the house you're looking at.
Carolina Forest is generally considered the area to buy in for good community and good schools. Pawleys Island (much more expensive and further south) is also popular.
