how to get rid of dust in old house?
I live in a somewhat old house that was built in the 50's. It has hard wood floors and such. Dust gathers so badly in that house and no matter how much I dust, I can't get rid of it. My allergies are terrible, so I really need to keep the dust maintained or completely out of there. The hard wood floors are really old also, and I want to lay carpet down one day, but can't due to budget problems at the moment. Any suggestions?
well my husband works for a heating/air conditioning company and he and his boss install the central air system and it's awesome, but i still feel like theres a ton of dust. every time i clean ANYTHING in that house I start sneezing for forever it seems. There is still old duct work under the house since they done everything in the attic, so i might do what you said. as for the value of the house, i do hope to live there a very long time because i inherited it from my grandma and can't sell it, lol. thanks!
My home is over a hundred years old and its the same way. All hardwood floors and dust bunnies from HELL! My allergies are so severe whenever I'm there. I totally know what your going through.
One thing that really makes an enormous difference is your heating/a/c system. Is it gas or electric? In my home its gas and the ducts where really old and grimmy! No amount of cleaning them would help, but if you haven't tried that option it would be my first suggestion. Last resort would be to have all the duct work redone, or having a hepa or better filtration system installed. This has made an incredible difference.
I would highly recommend that you do NOT cover your wood floors with carpet. That decreases the value of your home. Unless you plan to live their indefinetly I would not bother wasting my money on that.
Call a good A/C guy, most will give you a free estimate. This is probably your best option.
