Home Insurance question i received a postcard in the mail for a free hail damage inspection?
The post card claimed that they would handle the insurance claim if any damage was found. My neighbor recently reported damage from a recent hailstorm a couple of weeks ago.
My question is, is there anything I should look out for when dealing with a company like this .

I am a claim adjuster in an area that has been hit with numerous wind/hail claims. Please be careful with an "inspection" from a contractor that you did not contact first.
If they are long-time established business in your town then you will probably be OK. We are seeing many contractors coming into our area from out of state. They sublease a small office and get a local phone number and call themselves a local contractor.
Another thing to watch out for is when these contractors ask you to sign a contract. Some of the ones I have read are incredibly slanted against the homeowner. There are monetary penalities if you decide to use a different contractor etc. These contractors also sometimes act as a Public Claim Adjuster. In most states, anyone acting as a Public Adjuster must be licensed as a Public Adjuster. Being a licensed contractor is not the same thing.
I strongly recommend using a local established contractor that can give you local references for you to check.
If you neighbor has hail damage it does not automatically mean you have hail damage. I suggest that you report a claim to your insurance company. They will send an adjuster out to inspect your roof. If they find damages then you can hire a local contractor to do the work.
