Does the space shuttle always launch from Cape Canaveral?

Does the shuttle always lift off from there? Isn't that in the far southern tip of Florida? I thought the Kennedy Space Center was in Orlando? Is this just where the shuttle lands? I know sometimes it can be diverted to Houston or other sites from time to time. If I want to go see the shuttle lift off, where is the best place to do this?

The Space Shuttle does indeed always lift-off from Kennedy Space Center. KSC is not located in Florida's southern tip, but instead it's on the eastern seaboard about midway down Florida's coast, at Cape Canaveral.

The orbiter (NASA's name for the part that we think of as the shuttle) lands at KSC whenever possible. But there are alternate landing sites around the world for the orbiter. These sites are mostly for emergencies. For bad weather at KSC, Edwards Air Force Base is the normal diversion site. White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico is another alternate landing site, but only one landing has occurred there, because a once-in-a-century sandstorm pummeled the waiting-to-be-airlifted orbiter with gypsum sand.

Houston, to my knowledge, is not a normal landing site. The Johnson Space Center in Houston is NASA's mission control center.
